Sorry for the double-post today, but this one can’t wait… From the Doctoral School inbox: tutoring in inner-city schools – a paid opportunity for doctoral researchers and research staff. Information session tomorrow afternoon at 15:30.

Exciting PhD opportunity: Meaningful and well-paid programme delivering university-style tutorials in low participation inner-city schools.  If you would like to find out more please come to an information session on Wednesday 7 November from 3.30-4.30 in Arts A002

The Brilliant Club is an award winning charity that recruits, trains and pays PhD students to deliver programmes of university-style tutorials to small groups of high performing pupils aged 9-18 who attend primary and secondary schools in low-participation areas. Our vision is an education system in which young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are proportionately represented at highly selective universities and we are looking to recruit a cohort of motivated PhD students from all subject backgrounds to help us work towards it.

Our Researcher Development Programme has been designed with PhD students and Early-career researchers (Post-docs) in mind and you will have the opportunity to deliver three placements throughout the year with an ongoing training and support programme led by teachers rated ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED. PhD tutors will be paid c. £1450 plus travel allowance to participate in this scheme. We encourage early applications for this scheme so that researchers can complete one placement before Christmas. We will endeavour to place PhD students in a geographically-suitable school. It is also possible to work on a single, standalone programme (paid c.£450 per programme plus travel allowance).

To find out more about the organisation and the opportunities for researchers please download our PhD student brochure by clicking this link. We are currently recruiting for placements beginning in November so if you are interested, please get in touch soon.
